On Saturday, Raila Odinga was soundly defeated by Djibouti’s candidate, Ali Youssouf, in the election for the chairperson of the African Union Commission. We extend our congratulations to Ali Youssouf and wish him well in his new role.
Raila Odinga has let down the Kenyan people by relinquishing his position as the leader of the opposition, forming a devious alliance with President William Ruto. It is regrettable that, after cultivating an image as a champion of human rights and constitutionalism, he has allied himself with a government that has become famous for abductions, and bad governance. In light of this situation, we believe that African leaders made a prudent decision in denying him the chairmanship. It is time for Raila to step aside and allow Kenyans to determine their own future.
