Prominent lawyer and Safina’s Deputy Party Leader, Willis Otieno, has called on President William Ruto to clarify where he gets the large amounts of money he donates to churches, after Ruto raised concerns about corruption among lawmakers.
On his official X account on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Otieno asked how Ruto could fund the multi-billion-shilling church project at State House and make regular large donations while simultaneously accusing legislators of corruption.
His comments came after Ruto stated that some Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators were sabotaging government programs for their own benefit.
The president pointed out that there are valid worries about how funds are being utilized in counties and questioned how someone could come up with Ksh150 million, emphasizing that such funds should belong to the county.
“There are valid worries about how funds are being utilized in the counties. Let me ask, where does someone find 150 million? That is money that belongs to the county,” Ruto questioned.
