A disturbing video has surfaced online showing a Catholic nun, affiliated with the Fransiscan Sisters of Asumbi (FSJ), physically assaulting a younger sister in the presence of workers.
In the video, the victim is heard pleading with the nun, asking,
“What have I done that you are beating me?… Why are you beating me in front of workers?”
Despite the sister’s protests, the nun continued the assault, slapping her repeatedly and berating her with demeaning language.
The Atheists In Kenya Society strongly condemns this incident.
This incident has once again exposed the significant disparity between the principles advocated by numerous religious organisations and the behaviours exhibited by their leaders.
We strongly encourage the young lady who has suffered abuse to discontinue her association with the Asumbi Sisters. She now needs to prioritise independent thinking and personal freedom, and reject religious authority.
She should explore alternative, non-religious communities that offer a more inclusive and affirming environment.
