What an amazing day!
Members and friends of the Atheists In Kenya Society (AIK) came together for a fantastic Atheist Nature Walk at Karura Forest on Sunday, 30th August, 2026 β and it was absolutely awesome!
The walk gave us a wonderful opportunity to step away from our busy routines, enjoy nature, get some exercise and, most importantly, spend quality time together as a community.
Β
Nature, Friendship & Community
Our Karura walk was more than just a walk through the forest. It was about building friendships, creating memories and strengthening our community.
We laughed, talked, shared ideas and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of Karura Forest. There was no shortage of good conversations and positive energy throughout the day.
For us as atheists, appreciating nature doesn’t require a supernatural explanation. We can marvel at the forests, rivers, wildlife and incredible diversity of life simply because nature itself is fascinating.
Β
Getting Active
The walk was also a great reminder that community activities don’t always have to happen in restaurants, hotels or meeting rooms.
Sometimes, all we need is a good trail, comfortable shoes and great company!
Walking through the forest provided an opportunity to get active while enjoying the peaceful environment away from the noise and pressure of the city.
Building an Atheist Community
One of the most important things we are building through activities like these is community.
Being an atheist or non-religious person in Kenya can sometimes feel isolating, particularly in a society where religion plays a major role in everyday life.
Events such as the Karura Nature Walk remind us that we are not alone.
We can come together, make friends, have fun, discuss ideas and build meaningful relationships without requiring religious beliefs to bring us together.
Β
More Nature Walks Coming!
The success of this walk has motivated us to organise more nature walks and community activities in the future.
If you missed this one, don’t worry β there will be more opportunities to join us!

Enjoy Nature. Think Critically. Build Community.
Our Karura Forest Nature Walk was a beautiful reminder that atheism isn’t simply about what we don’t believe.
It is also about building communities where people can connect through friendship, reason, curiosity, critical thinking and a shared appreciation of the natural world.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day special. Karura was awesome β and we can’t wait for the next one!
