Sarah Mullally has been appointed as the new Archbishop of Canterbury, marking her as the first female leader of the Church of England in its 1,400-year history.
The former Chief Nursing Officer for England is set to be confirmed as the Church’s highest Bishop during a legal ceremony in the upcoming months.
In her initial remarks following the announcement of her appointment, Mullally said that while the position is a “significant responsibility,” she experiences a sense of “peace and trust in God to guide me.”
Mullally will officially take on the role of Archbishop of Canterbury at a ceremony in Canterbury Cathedral in March, next year.
