The Atheists In Kenya Society stands for the building of a more humane society through an ethics based on human and other natural values in a spirit of reason and free inquiry through human capabilities.
We are not theistic, and we do not accept supernatural views of reality.
Who we are
We are an atheist organisation registered under the Societies Act, CAP 108, We are the first and only legally registered atheist organisation in Kenya.
The Atheists In Kenya Society acts as an umbrella body for non-believers in Kenya. These include:
If you lack an active belief in gods, you are an atheist.
Being an atheist doesn’t mean you’re sure about every theological question, have answers to the way the world was created, or how evolution works. It just means that the assertion that gods exist has left you unconvinced.
An agnostic is a person who believes that any ultimate reality (such as God) is unknown and probably unknowable. Agnostics are not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god. Agnostics may also refrain from commitment to any religious doctrine because of a lack of knowledge about God or the creation of the universe.
A freethinker is someone who forms their own opinions and beliefs, especially about religion or politics, rather than just accepting what is officially or commonly believed and taught. Freethinkers are mentally free from conventional bonds of tradition or dogma and think independently.
Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good.
A skeptic questions the validity or authenticity of something purporting to be factual. Skepticism prompts us to question assumptions, beliefs, and claims. By doing so, we avoid blind acceptance and engage in evidence-based reasoning.
Spirituality is a worldview that suggests a dimension to life beyond what we experience on the sensory and physical levels. In practice, this might entail religious or cultural practices and beliefs surrounding a higher being, connection with others and the world as a whole, and/or the pursuit of self-improvement.
